Mark Meier (1926-2012), was an international leader in glaciology. For more than 50 years, his research and professional activities influenced the science and its research directions in fundamental ways. The glaciological disciplines he affected include dynamics, mass balance, hydrology, remote sensing, and global sea level rise. His career spanned the era when glaciology was transformed from a descriptive and qualitative science to a process-oriented, physics-based science. Mark was one of the people who led that transition. For that reason, many of Mark's papers became fundamental contributions to the discipline. This presentation briefly summarizes Mark’s career and his contributions to the science he loved, glaciology.
