CHRONOLOGIC REVIEW OF GSA INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES

A brief chronologic review of past highlights of GSA international activities includes:

--tabulation of international cooperative agreements, specifying country, date, and scope;

--tabulation of GSA Honorary Fellows, specifying name, title, country, and date;

--tabulation of historical data of the Intrnational Division (ID) from 11/1989 and the International Section (IS) from 11/2009, specifying by year (insofar as possible) the President or Chair, Annual Reports, Member Numbers, Fiscal Year Expenses, Travel Grants since 1998, International Secretaries since 1998, Distinguished Career Awards since 2003, and Newsletters since 2007;

--tabulation of international conference data in Argentina (2007), Turkey (2010), and China (2013);

--identification since 2012 of the annual Distinguished International Lecturer, Prof.Victor Baker of the University of Arizona, funded by the GSA Foundation;

--and the election by the International Section of the first Honorary International Fellow, Sospeter Muhongo, Minister of Mines and Energy in Tanzania,

New 2012 Bylaws specify the creation of an International Liaison Committee (ILC) chaired by the IS Secretary and consisting of eight GSA Honorary Fellows or their surrogates to represent eight major geographic regions of future potential collaboration: Europe (24 nations, 505 members), East Asia (11 nations, 229 members), South Pacific (4 nations, 158 members), Latin America (15 nations, 128 mem-bers) , Middle East/North Africa (9 nations, 53 members), South Asia (4 nations, 49 members), Sub-

Saharan Africa (7 nations, 30 members), and North Asia (2 nations, 8 members). Note also that North America has 3 nations with 418 members , but is not a region of International Section collaboration!However, the 418 plus the 1,160 in 76 overseas nations makes a total of 1,578 IS members in 2013.
