THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LINEAMENT ANALYSES FOR GEOSTRUCTURAL INTERPRETATION OF SEDIMENTARY, META-SEDIMENTARY, AND META-IGNEOUS BEDROCK TERRAINES

Historically, large scale regional lineament analyses (RLA) have been effective indicators of near surface bedrock geostructural trends. Three tunnel project case histories within sedimentary, meta-sedimentary, and meta-igneous terraines were evaluated using modified RLA methodology (Mabee, et al,1994) and compared to site-specific field data or published data. Pole plots of lineament data sets established from aerial photographs, topographic or LiDAR base maps compared favorably with field measured data sets. RLA is an effective baseline approach to develop preliminary geophysical/geotechnical programs to provide the safe design and significantly reduce risks for underground projects.
