GPR EVALUATION OF PAVEMENT FAILURE IN ROADWAYS :A CASE STUDY IN TAJOURA AREA NW LIBYA

TARHUNI F F, Moftah A. Abuaisha, Tripoli Libya

Georadar investigations were conducted in some existing roadways in Tajoura area, where pavement failure is apparent. Stripping zones and pavement cut off satnd clear in these roads under the investigations. This problem is common in some inter connected roadways in the area. The GPR study indicated locations of weak parts in sub-pavement layer where rehabilitation is needed in the near future.

These roads lie on the Quaternary deposition of Pleistocene age which locally known as Jefara formation. Thickness of the Quaternary rocks ranges from 20 to 50 meter. The Jefara formation composed mainly from silt, sand and conglomerate with occasional gypseus and calcareous crust.
