The International Association of GeoChemistry (IAGC) makes annual or biannual awards to recognize outstanding colleagues in the field of geochemistry. Two IAGC awards will be presented at this meeting.

Ian Hutcheon will receive the Vernadsky medal- IAGC’s highest award- in recognition of his outstanding career in a number of areas of geochemistry including petrology, geochemistry of high-grade metamorphic terranes, diagenesis, CO2 sequestration, etc. Dr. Hutcheon is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Calgary. Throughout Dr. Hutcheon’s career he has trained numerous geochemists, and has been a valued mentor.

Karen Johannesson has been selected as an IAGC Fellow. She is currently a Professor at Tulane University, and a recognized expert on the geochemical behavior of rare earth elements in the environment. She also has conducted ground-breaking research on elements such as As, Se, and W that form oxyanions, and understanding their mobility in groundwater systems.
