This presentation will increase awareness of IBP’s freely available diversity resources for faculty, while also providing examples of how geoscience programs across the country have successfully implemented these resources to actualize program broader impact goals. The presentation will begin by highlighting IBP’s website, www.PathwaysToScience.org, which receives roughly 750,000 visits annually (the majority of which are in response to IBP’s targeted outreach to underrepresented minority students in STEM and their faculty mentors). We will demonstrate how to post your program to the site, will explain the benefits of posting, and will discuss the web analytics available to you to understand the impact of your posting. We will review the template recruitment and retention plans available on the site, and provide tips on implementing those plans within your program. We will also introduce you to IBP’s online Mentoring Manual and IBP’s Resource Toolbox, and discuss how these resources can be implemented within your program design. Finally, we will highlight IBP’s ongoing professional development webinars for students and faculty/staff and discuss how you can engage your students and faculty (individually or as a group) in this content. Example webinar topics include “Funding your Graduate Education,” “Making the Most of your Graduate Program,” “Preparing for a Postdoc Position,” “Broadening Participation Resources for Faculty,” and “Mentoring Underrepresented Students in STEM.” IBP’s mission is to increase diversity in STEM. IBP operates on a model of strategic, targeted activities supported by strategic infrastructure, which enables IBP to support underrepresented minority students in their efforts to seek research, funding, mentoring, and professional development opportunities and succeed in their chosen careers; support faculty and administrators in their efforts to support and mentor students, build partnerships, and contribute to the pool of best practices; and grow diversity awareness and cultural competency in programs, departments, and institutions. IBP has supported the National Science Foundation and NASA with broadening participation activities for over a decade.
