RESTORING THE HEADWATERS OF THE ARKANSAS RIVER

SPULLER, Kerri E., Colorado Mountain College, Natural Resource Management, 804 Hemlock, Leadville, CO 80461, Kerrispuller@gmail.com

I am a current GeoCorps America intern at Colorado Mountain College’s Natural Resource Management Program in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management. As the Abandoned Mine Land Geologist I have been working on several projects monitoring and restoring areas affected by acid mine waste within the Headwaters of the Arkansas watershed. I have had the opportunity to perform a variety of field, lab and data analysis work including water/sediment sampling, laboratory water analysis, wetland delineation and restoration, and didymo (algae) quantification. I am also writing a watershed plan for the Headwaters of the Arkansas River in accordance with the EPA’s 319 watershed grant. As part of my internship I have been able to explore the beautiful wilderness areas in the high peaks of Colorado, network with professionals working in the field of water resource management and have hands-on experiences that will help me through graduate school and my career in the geosciences.
