BERES, Madison E. and DOMACK, Cynthia R., Department of Geosciences, Hamilton College, 198 College Hill Road, Clinton, NY 13323, mberes@hamilton.edu

The purpose of this project is to design and create an educational booklet on the New York State fossil, the eurypterid Eurypterus remipes. Eurypterids are an extinct Paleozoic order of shallow water, marine, near-shore arthropods. In general, eurypterids are considered rare as fossils. The results of this project include a short booklet intended for a wide audience with varied educational background. By focusing on general background, historical events, ecological and geologic information, children and adults can obtain an appreciation of the scientific and historical significance of the New York State fossil, Eurypterus remipes. The booklet includes numerous diagrams and figures that serve as visual aids applicable to various levels of age and ability.
