HOW R.B.H.S. WENT H.O.T. AND MAPPED FOR A PURPOSE, COMBATING THE EBOLA CRISIS

KEITH-HOULE, Leah, Science Department, Red Bank High School, 640 Morrison springs Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415, leahkeithhoule@gmail.com

Red Bank High School's GIS/OSM class recently spent 6+ weeks mapping HOT for H.O.T. O.S.M. as a Humanitarian Outreach Team, using Open Street Map, a free and open source editable mapping program. See how we worked with mappers from around the globe to establish maps for the areas hit the hardest in the Ebola Outbreak. Follow along as we map in the city of Monrovia where the victims of Ebola quickly outnumber their support, rural areas where trees and brush make paths into small creases in the foliage, and cities of small houses built onto each other. Our data went straight to our Ebola Fighting Heroes, the CDC, Red Cross, and W.H.O., on the ground in Africa to assist in the coordination of the relief efforts. See how even high school students can make a difference a world away.
