LICENSING GEOLOGISTS IN NEW YORK STATE – WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU

The law to establish the profession of geology in New York State is scheduled to become effective on November 21, 2016. This talk will highlight the licensure of individuals and its implications to practicing geologists, including the education and experience requirements. The timeline for licensure will be presented including when applications may begin to be accepted and when licenses are anticipated to be granted. The differences between the grandfathering and post-grandfathering periods, and the potential for continuing education requirements will also be presented.

The presentation will also provide context as to who will be required to be licensed and who will not. A brief description of the anticipated licensure test and the cost of obtaining and maintaining a license will be covered.
