LICENSING GEOLOGISTS IN NEW YORK STATE – WHAT IT MEANS TO YOUR COMPANY

NADEAU, John M., Alpha Geoscience, 679 Plank Rd, Clifton Park, NY 12065; New York State Council of Professional Geologists, PO Box 10576, Albany, NY 12201, jnadeau@alphageoscience.com

The law to establish the profession of geology in New York State is scheduled to become effective on November 21, 2016. This talk will highlight the implications to corporations conducting business in New York and to practicing geologists owning and employed by these companies. As of the effective date of this law, all firms owned by geologists operating within the state will be required to reincorporate as professional corporations. Firms that are currently offering professional services (engineers, land surveying, etc.) that wish to offer geologic services will need to amend their current charter and add a professional geologist to the ownership. The discussion will include potential pathways for corporations to convert and offer these services.
