Students in Physical Geology at Delaware County Community College had the opportunity to engage in an honors project combining geological field and laboratory methods. Students collected cores across a dried fluvial channel in John Heinz at Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge, in southeast Pennsylvania, and analyzed the sediments in the laboratory. Each core was split and described, and samples were then dried, weighed, and sieved. Sedimentological analyses were performed, and profiles and maps of transects were brought into ArcGIS and Google Earth to visualize the spacial relationships. The students concluded the honors project by presenting their work and interpretations to the class.
