Carboniferous rocks outcrop over vast areas in the Alborz Mountains. The Mobarak Formation outcrops in the studied area near the Damavand town, North-east of Tehran, Northern Iran. The petrographic study produced the recognition of sixteen different microfacies types. Based on microscopic studies,Three facies belts have been characterized: (1) a lagoonal facies belt, (2) a barrier (shoal) facies belt and (3) an open-marine facies belt. Facies of Mobarak Formation in this section deposited in a distally steepened ramp in beginning and deposited in a Rimmed Shelf in continuation.
