DETAILED INVESTIGATION OF THE MARBLE FALLS FORMATION, FORT WORTH BASIN, TX

FILKINS, Ashley and GOTTARDI, Raphaƫl, School of Geosciences, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, 611 McKinley Street, Hamilton Hall, Lafayette, LA 70504, axf0325@louisiana.edu

The Lower Pennsylvanian Marble Falls Formation of the Fort Worth Basin is a mixed carbonate-siliciclastic formation that lies above the Barnett shale and is of interest to the petroleum industry. We present the preliminary results of an investigation of the geological setting and depositional system of the Marble Falls Formation in order to examine potential for source, reservoir, and seal units. Combined with an understanding of the timing of deposition, we will determine if there is a complete and effective petroleum system. Correlation of core and log data across Jack County, Texas, will give vital information on shale content and its effect on the longevity of productivity in a well.
