LEARNING ABOUT GEOINFORMATICS WITH YOUR PEERS

HSU, Leslie, U.S. Geological Survey, Community for Data Integration (CDI), Denver, CO 80225, lhsu@usgs.gov

Collective geoinformatics knowledge can be expanded many-fold when individuals share their experiences in communities of practice - groups of people that come together to learn about a common endeavor. The USGS Community for Data Integration (CDI) is one group that works to increase the knowledge and use of geoinformatics tools, and to provide opportunities to exercise these tools in collaborative activities. The topics that CDI covers are member-driven, and help participants do their jobs and research more efficiently. Some recent topics include data management, web technologies, semantic web, real-time data, structure from motion, and cloud computing. You don’t have to learn these things on your own, join together with your peers to advance geoinformatics and get the most value out of your geoscience data.
