How Diversity? Keynote Presentation

GATES, Alexander E., Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Rutgers University, 101 Warren St, Smith Hall Room 136, Newark, NJ 07102, agates@rutgers.edu

The geosciences is one of the least diverse of all the STEM disciplines. This panel discussion, again driven by audience participation, will focus on strategies to develop a skilled and diverse geoscience workforce. The future will also require a workforce with skills that go beyond the traditional scientific sub-disciplines of the earth sciences - chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics – to include ethics, social and environmental justice, policy formulation and communication. The panel will explore programs designed to create a workforce that is representative of the world in which we live, and will address strategies in both academia and industry to encourage inclusiveness and foster diversity.
