The study started at the Burlinton base and ended at the Keokuk top. Members included are Meppen, Dolby Creek, Haight Creek, Cedar Fork, Montrose Chert, and Keokuk formation. The depositional pattern alternates three coarse cycles with a coarse top and fine base with two cycles with silt and glauconitic dolomite. Glacial activity as a response to solar variation, orbital changes and spiral arms are postulated. Facies changes reflect a sand source from the northeast. Massive carbonates in the west reflect a shelf margin.

Detailed rock type, bed shape and proportions yield correlations traceable for hundreds of miles.
