TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSES OF THE STATEN ISLAND SERPENTINITE

BENIMOFF, Alan I., Department of Engineering Science and Physics and the Masters Program in Environmental Science, The College of Staten Island/CUNY, Staten Island, New York, Alan.Benimoff@csi.cuny.edu

This author recently reported the chemical analyses of eleven specimens of Staten Island Serpentinite (Benimoff, 2015) as (1) an average MgO/SiO2 ratio of 1.098;(2) an average Al2O3 /SiOratio of 0.009; (3) a positive Eu anomaly in Chondrite normalized spider diagrams and (4) an enrichment in Pb in mantle normalized spider diagrams.

Extended Trace element patterns of this study show enrichments in Pb, U and a negative anomaly in Nb and Ti compared with the other elements when plotted in (1) Rock/Pyrolite Mantle (McDonough and Sun, 1995), (2) Rock/NMORB (Sun and McDonough, 1989), (3) Rock/Primitive Mantle (Lyubetskaya and Korenaga, 2007) and (4) Rock/Primitive Mantle double norm Yb=4 (Sun and McDonough, 1989). This is consistent with our previous results. This is in accord with “residual mantle origin of protoliths” (Deschamps et al., 2013).
