Building tunnels is a complicated task that requires a proper geological and geotechnical knowledge, and which allow as to find solutions to the problems that arise from the projections of this kind of infrastructure.

The engineering geology has an important role during redaction of underground projects, because it is the key for selecting the best constructive method and, then, conditioning the final design of the tunnel.

During recent times, there are many tunnel incidents around the world which show the relevance of a good geological and geotechnical knowledge prior of the construction the tunnel. An example of this topic is the collapse of the Carmel tunnel in the 2005 during the extension works of the subway line number five in Barcelona (Spain).

In this work, we make an analysis of the main geotechnical parameters (Rock Mass Rating, Geological Strength Index) present in different projects of several tunnels affected by incidents in Spain to obtain the influence of these parameters on the problems that appeared during the tunnel construction.
