CARBONIFEROUS HYDROCARBON ACCUMULATION CONDITIONS AND PREDICTION OF FAVORABLE EXPLORATION AREAS IN JUNGGAR BASIN

Junggar Basin is an important hydrocarbon-bearing superimposed basin in China. Carboniferous is a complex period of tectonic activity in Junggar Basin. Before 2005, the Carboniferous strata were regarded as the basement of the basin for oil and gas exploration. In recent years, with the discovery of some oil and gas reservoirs in the Carboniferous, scholars began to pay attention to the Carboniferous system. However, the research on the hydrocarbon accumulation conditions of Carboniferous in Junngar basin is sparse. We hope to figure out the hydrocarbon accumulation and distribution of Carboniferous in Junngar basin. For this goal, by studying the tectonic-sedimentary evolution process of Carboniferous, we focused on the analysis of source rock distribution, thermal evolution of hydrocarbon generation and trap formation and types. We found that the Carboniferous source rocks are widely distributed, and the source rocks are exposed on the southern, northwest and northeastern margins of the basin. Types of oil and gas reservoir are diverse,mainly c consisting of structural traps and lithologic traps. We further clarified the main controlling factors of oil and gas distribution and pointed out favorable areas for oil and gas exploration in Carboniferous in Junngar basin. The positive structural unit adjacent to the hydrocarbon-generating depression and its slope area, the location of unconformity development is the oil and gas enrichment area. In Junngar basin, the northern part of the piedmont thrust belt in the southern margin, the southern slope of Luliang uplift and the northern part of the central depression are favorable areas for oil and gas exploration.
