Many of the physical and chemical qualities for aggregate use have been determined by State Highway Department Geology and Engineering Departments. Many Counties and Cities have adopted State Highway Qualities for paving and construction projects while other aggregate uses have quality requirements as determined by private contractors and the Federal Government Agencies. Aggregate Producers are continually challenged to meet these physical and chemical qualities through production ledge selection and extensive testing by both governmental and private testing groups. This presentation will examine some of the criteria used in the testing process including gradation and various physical and chemical characteristics.
