PREPARING A HYDROGEOLOGICAL MAP OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR: FAR FROM RHETORIC, CLOSER TO REALITY

MARTINEZ-SACRISTAN, Hernando, Research, HMS Latin American Products & Services, 554 W. 53rd Street Room 6-I-1, New York, NY 10019

Colombia has five main areas based on geographical characteristics but not all of them have developed hydrogeological map. It is known that the most important area about extension, population, and groundwater supply is denominated Andean Zone with a lot of aquifers. The Pacific Zone is composed by high rain forest rate, low rate of poor population, and medium amount of aquifers. The Caribbean Zone where is necessary to use groundwater but it has few information and low amount of aquifers. The Orinoquía Zone has medium to low amount of aquifers but low population and industry rate. Finally, the Amazon Zone is rain forest area but low rate of poor population and unknown amount of aquifers.

The goal for to prepare a private hydrogeologcial map is growing since early 2017.

The hypothesis of the present work is cause and effect with a simple statement, if you do not know your own non-renewable natural resources you will never have social or economic profits.

As a methodology it is necessary to use most explorations realized since 1981 using theoretical and practical aspects such as areal photography’s interpretation, geological field trips, hydrological evaluation, geoelectrical measures, geomorphology, and the subsequent drilling of deep wells.

As a result, we know several politic departments (States in USA) as administrative divisions. For example in Boyaca, Department where are fifteen provinces or regions. This research collected information along part of five of them, such as Occcidente, Ricaurte, Centro, Sugamuxi, and Tundama. It is important to mention we got preliminary and own information from Occidente province or region one town of fifteen towns. At the Ricaurte region with fourteen towns, from eight towns. Also, from eleven towns at the Centro province with fifteen towns; At the Sugamuxi region with twelve towns, from seven towns, and at the Tundama region with nine towns, from four towns In addition, it is necessary to collect information from several founts such as public agencies in charge of control water and groundwater, private organizations, other private groundwater well drillers, consultants, and constructors in order to fill our goal as soon as possible
