A NEW SPECIES OF CYSTIHALYSITES FROM ROSENDALE/KINGSTON AREA, NEW YORK
Recently unidentified specimens of tabulate corals were collected in the vicinity of Rosendale and Kingston, New York in the mid-Hudson Valley. They were examined and determined to be members of the Halysitidae Family, Genus Cystihalysites. The specimens were collected in the Glasco Member of the Rondout Formation, Upper Silurian, Pridoli age. The specimens appear to be a new species that may be closely related to Cystihalysites brownsportensis, Amsden. The proposed name of the species is Cystihalysites rosendalensis.
Additional specimens were collected in the lower Rondout equivalent of central New York from the Cobleskill Formation at Salt Springville and compared to the Rosen/Kingston specimens. Preliminary data indicates the specimens from Salt Springville can be identified as Cystihalysites brownsportensis.
