PLIO-PLEISTOCENE SEA-LEVEL CURVE OF THE DUVERGÉ PROVINC IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Strata along the road from Jimaní to Duvergé, in the Dominican Republic show sudden changes in the sedimentary facies. This study aims to determine if those sudden changes are responding to local tectonics during the Plio-Pleistocene. To assess that question, data and rock samples were collected and analyzed in the context of sequence stratigraphy. An interpretation of the coastal onlap was develop, assigning water-depth depositional ranges, in order to construct a relative (local) sea-level curve for the Jimaní and Arroyo Seco Formations. Later, comparison between the relative and eustatic sea-level curves showed great similarities between the two. These suggests that the sudden changes in the sedimentary facies are responding to global changes in sea-level and not to local tectonic forces.
