CLIMATE JUSTICE

DAVIS, Felicia, Business Services/Sustainability, Clark Atlanta University, 627 LINDA WAY, FOREST PARK, GA 30297

Prior to the pardee symposium the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) strategic planning initiative will hold a series of dialogues each focusing on different aspects of ACE: education and engagement, public participation and access to information, training and workforce development, and connection and collaboration. My question for the geoscience community is, “if we get it right, what will it look like?” It is irrational to expect scientists to prioritize justice as they work to understand, articulate, and design solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change unless and until they are convinced that justice is fundamental to success. When justice is a primary consideration in crafting climate policy it will inspire a different set of priorities, commitments and collaboration. GSA must act to increase diversity, equity and inclusion. My remarks will share ACE outcomes and explore opportunities to integrate and advance climate justice as a core geoscience value.
