How does one teach pedology online? This presentation illustrates the approach and technical methodology utilized in developing a purpose-built, fully online, upper division undergraduate course in soil morphology that has been taught twice yearly since 2018. Main focus will be on a single module of the course, illustrating how multifarious, active-learning "field" assignments are made using a combination of photogrammetrically-derived 3D soils (pits, peds, & monoliths), physical lab kits with samples from the modeled location, and web-based database/mapping software. As this course began development in 2017, and has been taught four terms, a discussion of pitfalls and missteps we have experienced will also be included in order to help others in their ongoing struggles with COVID-19 adaptations.
