There are three Proterozoic marine sedimentary sequence outcrops around Beijing, China. The geological relics and sedimentary phenomena are very rich. There are about 24 observation stops, which are important geological field education bases. Through field geological practice, the method of describing the evolution characteristics of sedimentary rocks and sedimentary sequences can be masteredd. The sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy interpretation techniques of field geological profile and related data provide a good basis for the comprehensive study of petroleum geological exploration and the evaluation of global oil and gas resources.

1)The Yanqing outcrop of Gaoyuzhuang Formation about 130 km in the north of Beijing. There are 9 stops in this outcrop. Stop1~5: marine carbonate, parasequence, dolomite, and stromatolite. Stop6~9: volcanic eruption and shore-shallow lake deposition. The observation characteristics of parasequence set in transgression systems tract in Gaoyuzhuang Fm. In addition, Jurassic dinosaur footprints, volcanic sediments and silicified wood fossils can also be seen. 2) The Jixian outcrop of Changcheng System about 110 km in the east of Beijing. There are 6 stops in this outcrop. 3) The Yongding Valley outcrop of Jixian System about 60 km in the west of Beijing. There are 3 stops in this outcrop.

The significance of petroleum geology lies in the development characteristics and scale of oil and gas reservoir as a guide to oil and gas exploration. The tight oil ~shale oil reservoir is developed in these kind of strata. The exploration of the glutenite oil and gas reservoir in the Junggar basin of Xinjiang has also proved that the oil and gas resources of the 100 million tons class can be found in such oil and gas reservoirs.

For non-geological professionals and primary and secondary school students, the training and educational role of these geological outcrops is also very meaningful, and is very important geoscience education training base.
