REWRITING THE ECOLOGY TEXTBOOK WITH A BEDROCK IN GEOLOGY
As an early career ecology and geoscience educator, finding the right textbook can be a daunting task. You already known the format of every peer-reviewed scientific paper. So, to get caught up in the "literature cited" section seems like drudgery. For sure, you need to honor the past highlights in your field and give credit where credit is due. But, when you teach students who go into the field with their phones out and verify not the method you are trying to get across, but the answer. With technology, the "task" of education will be an ever moving boulder uphill. So, Sisyphus, how do you get across the point when the students already have the answer in their hands? Lenses is what I argue. Make geology the scaffolding to your questions.
