GEOHERITAGE AND GEOGRAPHY: FINDING CONNECTIONS ACROSS THE EARTH SCIENCES IN NATIONAL PARKS

YOUNGS, Yolonda, Geography and Environmental Studies, CSU San Bernardino, San Bernardino, CA 92407

Connections between and across the earth sciences of geography and geology abound and there is a great potential for collaboration in geoheritage research and public outreach. This presentation will discuss some of these opportunities through the lens of national parks and protected areas research in the United States, citing research and projects in Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon National Park and other western U.S. park units. Emphasis will also include opportunities for digital and GIS based projects using mobile apps and online GIS as well as opportunities for community outreach and interdisciplinary research.
