Monitoring water quality provides the ability to take action and aid environmental water quality efforts. Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute placed an observational buoy via crane into the Ayia Napa Marina through a partnership with Old Dominion, East Carolina University, and the North Carolina School of Science and Math Summer Ventures Program. This observational instrument tested for dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, temperature, and turbidity. These water quality indicators were all found to be within community-established acceptable limits. While the data was within a healthy range, conservation methods can still be utilized to reach optimal quality indicators. The effective partnership between academic institutions, non-governmental, and private organizations was used to further increase the scope of environmental monitoring within the Mediterranean Sea, providing a model for future environmental monitoring.
