ZOUNLOMÈ, PHD, Nelson, Liberate The Block, 1329 Milton St, Pittsburgh, PA 15218

This presentation aims to equip faculty members with essential knowledge and practical strategies to address the mental health concerns of students within higher education. Recognizing the growing importance of student well-being in academic success, this presentation explores the pivotal role faculty play in identifying signs of distress and facilitating timely interventions. Dr. Nelson O. O. Zounlomè will, (a) discuss common mental health challenges faced by students, (b) highlight key indicators that signal the need for intervention, and (c) provide actionable steps for faculty to guide students towards appropriate resources and support. From this presentation, educators will gain valuable insights into the experiences and perspectives of students struggling with their mental health. Faculty will also be equipped with tools to discern subtle shifts in behavior, academic performance, and social engagement, enabling them to identify students in distress proactively. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating an empathetic and non-judgmental approach, fostering an environment where students feel comfortable seeking help. Through this presentation, faculty members will emerge with a strengthened capacity to address the mental health concerns of students, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and nurturing educational environment. By empowering faculty as active partners in the mental health support network, we aim to foster a campus community where students thrive academically, emotionally, and personally.
