Field activity is integral to the geosciences, yet an ingrained field culture emphasizing physical ability, mental toughness, and one-upmanship presents numerous barriers. Among diverse students and professionals, participation is limited by negative biases against outdoor experiences, attitudes of ableism, and accessibility. Colorado State University (CSU) has devised a field trip opportunity with the intent of remedying these limitations to advancing diversity in fieldwork. We propose a trip to take participants to CSU’s mountain campus for a period of exploration for diverse participants in a field setting. Our aim is to provide participants with an opportunity to network with other like-minded scholars and have a platform to share findings and build community in a rich research environment. It is an opportunity to enhance networks of camaraderie among diverse participants through activities and exercises designed to facilitate bonding and understanding in a field setting.
