FIRE IN THE PAST, FIRE IN THE MIND, FIRE IN THE FUTURE
Fire in the past. Reimagining the narrative of how humanity and fire have shaped the Earth by appealing to three fires over geologic time – the fire of nature, the fire used by humans in living landscapes, the fire sustained by humans that burn fossil biomass (lithic landscapes). Fire in the mind: Reconsidering how we understand fire by appeal to traditional knowledge, historical experience, and perhaps alternative sciences. Fire in the future: Redefining the issues of a maturing fire age – too much bad fire, too little good fire, too much combustion overall.
