LINDEN, Delanie J., MIT History, Theory, and Criticism of Art and Architecture (HTC) Program, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA 02139 and BURTON, Zachary F.M., Carl Sagan Center for Research, The SETI Institute, Mountain View, CA 94043; Department of Earth and Climate Sciences, Bates College, Lewiston, ME 04240

This contribution comprises a geoscience fieldwork-inspired visual arts exhibition developed with funding and collaborative support from the U.S. National Park Service and Great Basin Heritage Area Partnership. Artworks shared for GSA 2024 in Anaheim (California) will include field sketches, photographs, and oil paintings created en plein air. These artworks are designed as inspirational and educational products of a joint art and geology summer field season across volcanic fields, playas and endorheic lakes, and diverse desert and xeric shrubland landscapes of White Pine County (Nevada) and Millard County (Utah) in the secluded Great Basin National Heritage Area. We will discuss both the artworks and creative process as well as the geological context and the considerations in conceptualizing and completing collaborative, simultaneous arts and sciences fieldwork, research, and creative production.
