CRITICAL MINERALS PROCESSSING

ALVIN, Mary Anne, Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, 1000 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC 20585

To meet the Department of Energy’s Clean Energy requirement for achieving 100% clean power by 2035 and economywide decarbonization by 2050, technology advancements in major manufacturing sectors will need to be made that will require significant increases in the production of market-ready rare earths (RE) and critical minerals and materials (CMM).

DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) Critical Minerals Processing (CMP) Program is positioned to advance innovative RD&D efforts to extract, separate, recover and refine CMM from unconventional and secondary resources. Achievements in CMP’s portfolio over the past 10 years will be highlighted, FECM’s current focus will be discussed, and potential future transfer of technology for deployment in industry to assist in meeting the 2035-2050 challenges will be addressed.
