MUSEUM CAREERS DECLASSIFIED
Museums are places of wonder and inspire audiences of all ages. They are unique institutions that often sit at the confluence of exploration and education. Despite providing great services to communities that surround them, pathways to pursue these careers are not always well-discussed or communicated as a career option for early career geoscientists. Yet, geoscientists, in their training, develop a background that provides a skillset that can easily be applied to a museum context. In this presentation, I will outline different types of museum settings, cover some general career and job application advice, and then walk through a selection of potential museum positions that exist on the job market. Having served as a mentor and supervisor to numerous students in my career thus far, I look forward to sharing some of this hidden curriculum with both students and early career professionals.
