ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN URBAN RENEWAL SETTINGS

SAINDON, Rosanna and GOODWIN, Jessie, UES, Environmental Department, 11816 Lackland Drive, Suite 150, St. Louis, MO 63146

Environmental geology involves many geologic and technical factors when evaluating issues at a site. Working in established urban areas adds another layer of considerations and challenges. To highlight a range of challenges associated with urban environmental projects, a case study of a multifaceted site characterization, remediation, and restoration project at an 11-acre former industrial site in a historic district in St. Louis, Missouri will be presented. This case study includes six different end uses for the site and multiple concurrent remediation activities.
