This USGS EDMAP project has explored and characterized the surficial geology of the Fulton (1:24,000) Quadrangle, located in Jackson County, Iowa. This research area was selected due to a societal need for more geological information, as the region is between two of the fastest growing population centers in Iowa. The Fulton County Quadrangle is within both the East-Central Iowa Drift Plain, as well as the Iowan Erosion Surface. The Fulton Quadrangle is characterized by glacial sediments overlying limestone and dolomite bedrock with significant relief, erosion, and integrated drainage networks. Wind blown loess and eolian deposits are also of significance. Objectives include gathering, characterizing, and interpreting new geologic data in the field to produce an accurate and precise 1:24,0000 surficial geologic map. This EDMAP study, in collaboration with the Iowa Geological Survey, provides a public and private resource to be used with other mapping data of the focus area. The map contains pertinent geologic data to be used in interpretation of the land and water resources.
