BOURGEAULT, Jennifer, YOUNG, Beth and WICKLEIN, Haley, Leitzel Center, University of New Hampshire, 23 Academic Way, Parsons Hall N117, Durham, NH 03824

Explore the Earth Around Us Soil Tent (https://groundbeneathourfeet.weebly.com/) run by the New Hampshire GLOBE Partnership (https://www.globe.gov/web/leitzel-center/home/contact-info), located at the Leitzel Center at the University of New Hampshire. This program combines hands-on science activities centered around an Elementary GLOBE (https://www.globe.gov/web/elementary-globe/overview) book on soils and a 10x10 pop-up tent with immersive murals depicting students’ observations of their local soil ecosystems.

The tent is available for schools to “check out” and comes with all materials needed to engage in the science activities. A Water Tent (https://www.globe.gov/web/united-states-of-america/home/news/-/newsdetail/14718/nh-water-tent) themed around the changes in water bodies over the seasons is in development highlighting student artwork from an elementary school in Rochester, NH. The tents program offers an opportunity for career exploration with scientists, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) aligned activities, data collection (https://www.globe.gov/do-globe/globe-protocols), and flexibility to work with a school's timeline, curriculum, and needs. For organizations interested in becoming a GLOBE Partnership (https://www.globe.gov/about/learn/who-uses-globe/us-partners), funding is available to create an “Earth Around Us” Tent to serve your local audience.

The GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment, https://www.globe.gov/) Program is an international science and education program sponsored by NASA and supported by NSF, NOAA and the Department of State. In the United States and 127 member countries, learners of all ages are collecting data, carrying out environmental science research, and working with scientists to study Earth Systems Science.
