The National Park Service (NPS) manages extensive coastal marshes throughout the 88 ocean and coastal park units. As coastal areas are continually threatened by sea level rise, storm surge, and many other impacts from climate change, tidal marshes are increasingly important to help mitigate those impacts and increase coastal resiliency. NPS has employed several coastal marsh restoration techniques with successes and lessons learned. To facilitate knowledge sharing between coastal parks, we developed an ArcGIS online spatial database that showcases coastal restoration case studies and allows park restoration practitioners to easily find restoration examples to inform future projects. During this presentation, we will discuss the coastal restoration and climate adaptation challenges facing parks, share the restoration case studies dashboard, and provide marsh restoration examples from parks.
