THE CONTINUING INFLUENCE OF WALLACE AND SLEMMONS ON PALEOSEISMOLOGICAL RESEARCH
Methods, ideas, and models developed in the Basin and Range by Bob Wallace and Burt Slemmons , ranging from the development of low-angle-sun aerial photography to models of scarp degradation, mountain front evolution, crustal deformation, and earthquake recurrence continue to form the underpinnings of paleoseismological research in the Basin and Range, along the San Andreas system, and elsewhere around the globe. Drawing from my current studies, I illustrate the importance of their methods and ideas for understanding the neotectonics of the Walker Lane, and the relationship of patterns and rates of geodetic strain accumulation to the past history of earthquake ruptures across the northern Basin and Range.
