The undergraduate research program, funded by NASA-PAIR, consists of four seminars on analysis of data sets from GPS, SAR, solar physics, and proteomics. A cohort of 29 students was recruited from science, math, engineering, and technology (SMET) disciplines. The first short course (summer 2000) introduced students to GPS and SAR data analysis and presentations by scientists from JPL. Additional lectures involved discussions of the wave equation, Fourier analysis, statistical techniques, and computer applications of Excel and Matlab. Five of these students continued on as research assistants engaged in a variety of projects at CSUN, JPL, and Huntington Medical Research Institute. The program continued in the fall with weekly research lectures, and the next short course is solar physics in January 2001.
