A collaborative effort for integrating the National Science Standards into Pre- and In-Service Earth Science Curriculum has been underway over the past few years. Funding from several projects, Augmented Learning and Renewable Teaching (ALERT), NASA Opportunities for Visionary Academics (NOVA), and the California Science Project (CSP), has provided the resources for these tasks. Specifically, Project ALERT and NOVA have focused on the Earth System Science for pre-credential elementary and secondary teacher majors. The San Fernando Valley Science Project (SFVSP), funded by CSP, workshop in summer 2000 provided in-service for 30 middle and 10 high school teachers. Both the National and California science standards are introduced for topics on earthquakes, plate tectonics, and other earth system science content.
