VISUALIZATION TOOL FOR ORACLE SPATIAL

LI, Yinghui, Computer Science, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA 92129, yhli@san.rr.com

This is a teaching tool that is developed for the users who are willing to learn Oracle Spatial Database to understand the concepts and the formats of Oracle Spatial Database. The user interface of the system is written in Java including Java2D. The back-end of the system is using Oracle 9i spatial database server. Oracle JDBC Thin driver is used to establish the database connections.

There are four modes in this tool, Spatial Data, Spatial Query, User Data and User Query modes. This tool has online help files that introduce how to use these four modes. Users can do practice in the tutorial modes (Spatial Data and Spatial Query modes) and then create their own spatial tables, insert their own spatial objects and do some spatial analysis in User Data and User Query modes. Advanced users could use this visualization tool to show their graphics. In this tool, users can delete tables, modify data, load data from text files, zoom in and zoom out the graphics, print preview and print the graphics, select an object from a list for identification.
