NEW TOOLS FOR INVESTIGATING GEOSCIENCE USING GIS

KERSKI, Joseph1, AGRIOS, Bronwyn2, JOHNSON, Ann2 and LEE, Angela3, (1)Education, ESRI, 1 International Court, Broomfield, CO 80021-3200, (2)Education, ESRI, 380 New York St, Redlands, CA 92373, (3)Education, ESRI, 880 Blue Gentian Road - Suite 200, St Paul, MN 55121-1596, jkerski@esri.com

Join the education team from ESRI as we demonstrate how to use 2D and 3D Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to investigate and teach the spatial patterns of geologic phenomena. Desktop (including ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Explorer), Web based, and mobile applications can be utilized to query and analyze spatial data from the local scale to the global scale. Learn about ways to integrate your research with data from numerous online resources or from fieldwork tied to coordinates (such as through GPS) to take advantage of the spatial approach. The presentation will also cover how to leverage online maps and services. Free software and other resources will be provided.
