Antipathy towards science and scientists is increasing in US society and politics. Some scientists “hunker down” and hope external drivers will change public attitudes. The unfortunate consequence of this is that scientists can be seen, however unfairly, as aloof and elitist. Furthermore, their pent-up frustrations at the state of affairs can lead scientists to further isolate themselves from the public. Humor can provide an outlet to allow scientists to be seen more holistically as people who are part of society, and who have relevant cultural literacy.

In this presentation, humorous expression in response to social and political issues takes on a more satirical edge. Parody advertisements for a “climate denier” spray-on repellent and a personal injury climate lawyer are performed. Other sketches include an instructional video for the mitigation of intelligent design, and the Meeting Update News Summary.
