BUILDING HBCU PATHWAYS TO GEOSCIENCES (Invited Presentation)

DAVIS, Felicia, Office of Sustainability, 223 James P. Brawley Drive, Atlanta, GA 30314

The HBCU Geosciences Working Group was established to increase the participation of Black colleges in national efforts to increase diversity in the geosciences. Strategic networking, interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration was the focus of early efforts with engagement expanding to community as the work evolved. The Group has successfully competed for grants, published and conducted research designed to assess the impact of geoscience curricula for HBCU students. This strategy has been effective in engaging HBCU faculty with a measurable impact on students.
