TEACHER-SCIENTIST PARTNERSHIPS: AN EFFICIENT MECHANISM TO DEVELOP A MORE INCLUSIVE, DIVERSE, AND EQUITABLE GEOSCIENCE COMMUNITY

KELLY, Susan Meabh, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Storrs, CT 06268

The National Science Foundation's broader impact criteria possesses status equivalent to intellectual merit in the award process. Despite efforts to support a more diverse and inclusive geoscience workforce, little has changed. Partnerships with K-12 teachers serving communities in the vicinity of post-secondary institutions can support impact beyond campus confines... facilitating a bridge to students who represent populations that have been historically marginalized from science. This session will outline benefits and mechanisms for geoscientists to collaborate with K-12 education professionals.
