CONNECTING GEOSCIENCE EDUCATORS AROUND THE GLOBE WITH THE IGEO NEWSLETTER

PASSOW, Michael J., Earth2Class Workshops, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, 61 Rt. 9W, Palisades, NY 10964

The Newsletter of the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO) provides an effective mechanism to connect educators around the globe. Articles provide timely announcements of upcoming conferences and reports of past events of interest to IGEO members. Recent examples include the VIII GeoSciEd conference in Campinas; Brazil, the 2018 International Earth Science Olympics in Thailand; publication of the free E-book: "Earth Science Education: Global Perspective" edited by Roberto Greco and Leslie Almburg; the first IUGG Womxn's Networking Event in Montreal in 2019; and the 36th International Geological Congress in India in 2020. Information has been shared about the 2019 GIFT (Geoscience Education For Teachers) workshops and other programs of interest at the recent European Geoscience Union General Assembly; training of the IGEO/IUGS Geoscience Education Field Officers; initiatives of the newly-organized Latin America Chapter of the IGEO; and the Columbia University Earth Institute. Each issue tries to include information about geoscience education on every continent through calls for submissions to the IGEO Council Members from more than 40 countries. Submissions are edited to meet standards of English. They are first created as Word docs, and submitted for posting on the website as pdfs. Current and past issues are available at http://www.igeoscied.org/about-the-igeo/newsletters/. The IGEO Newsletter can serve as a model for outreach efforts for other organizations.
