BUILDING THE GEOSCIENCES IN A FLORIDA 2YC VIA FACULTY AS CHANGE AGENTS

WOODALL, Debra and BRALEY, Karen, School of Biological and Physical Sciences, Daytona State College, Daytona Beach, FL 32114

The SAGE Florida Change-Agent Team is working to increase recruitment and retention of students in the Geoscience programs in Florida 2YCs. This effort involved increasing the use of effective classroom pedagogy; offering opportunities for undergraduate student research; providing professional development opportunities for current high school teachers to learn about geoscience content and careers; engaging in community outreach and education programs; and developing support systems for geoscience majors to successfully make the transition to further study and/or the geoscience workforce. Being a part of the SAGE 2-YC team of Change Agents has helped us to create a sustainable geoscience program at Daytona State College.
